For our supporters in Malaysia and the Greater Klang Valley area – please take note of this event which includes Women’s Aid Organisation – one of our partner beneficiaries:
The World March for Peace And Non Violence Kuala Lumpur (WMKL) is the Malaysian leg of the first-ever World March that will travel the world starting from 2nd October 2009 – the anniversary of Gandhi’s birth – in New Zealand to 2nd January 2010 in Argentina, asking for the end of wars, the dismantling of nuclear weapons and for an end to all forms of violence – physical, economic, racial, religious, cultural, sexual and psychological.
This will be a symbolic March to unite people of all sectors of the population, who aspire for peace and a better World. The event aims to create consciousness and public awareness for the urgent need for Peace, and to create a “culture of non-violence” in order to establish and sustain real peace.
5 Non-Government Organizations – NurSalam, The Women’s Aid Organization, Voice of the Children, SPCA Selangor and World Without Wars – and the restaurant group Maxim Image are getting together for this cause and have given birth to a cultural street festival to celebrate the arrival of the World March in KL, Malaysia on the 10th of October 2009, from 6pm onwards at Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, KL.
There will be a Street Festival at Jalan Bangkung with performances by Malaysian artists, exhibitions by NGOs, food stalls, and other exciting vendors, as well as a “Reclaiming the Night” Lantern Walk starting. Bring along your Lanterns/ Tanglungs and join us for this historic walk for peace and non violence! Revellers are also invited to the Peace Dance, a 60-s and 70-s costume party at Leonardo’s Wine Loft supported by Doof Industries.
