FEBRUARY 21st, 2025 (WORLDWIDE): The Pixel Project, a 501(c)3 anti-Violence Against Women non-profit, is proud to announce a special Women’s History Month livestream panel session, When History Does Not Repeat Itself: Lessons From The Past About Ending Violence Against Women, featuring distinguished historians Dr Megha Kumar and Dr Rebecca Turkington.

The panel session will be streaming live on YouTube at 9.30am ET/2.30pm UK Time on International Women’s Day (8 March 2025).

Dr Kumar (India and United Kingdom) and Dr Turkington (USA) will be joining The Pixel Project for this timely live conversation about forms of violence against women in history that are now either completely eradicated or much reduced and how this was achieved. Within this context, panellists will consider and discuss:

  • what we can learn from historical examples about ending violence against women today and in the future.
  • why activists and advocates working to end violence against women might consider drawing inspiration from historical examples for tackling violence against women.
  • how activists and advocates can discover examples of historical activism that successfully eradicated violence against women given the silencing of women’s voices in history.

Audience members will be able to ask Dr Kumar and Dr Turkington questions about the topic live.

Regina Yau, founder and president of The Pixel Project, said: “We are honoured to welcome Dr Kumar and Dr Turkington to The Pixel Project’s first ever Women’s History Month panel session featuring historians who are experts on various aspects of women’s history. Even while violence against women has been exceedingly difficult to eradicate over the centuries due to deeply-rooted patriarchal systems worldwide, there have been examples of resistance by women and communities across the centuries, some resulting in the extinction of specific forms of violence against women and girls while other efforts remain ongoing. Ending violence against women is a long game and we believe that history – especially the hidden herstories of women – will offer valuable and strategic insight, ideas, and inspiration for activists and advocates worldwide today as they fight for a future where women and girls can achieve their full potential through lives free from male and patriarchal violence.”
